April Ibarra, MGS

Founder, Bold, Not Old™
Gerontologist & Certified Senior Advisor®
Aging Life Care® Professional

For more than 35 years, I have worked alongside older adults and families across the senior care continuum, helping them navigate the realities of aging, caregiving, chronic illness, housing transitions, loss, and end-of-life decisions. Along the way, I witnessed a troubling pattern: people spent decades planning financially for retirement but very little time planning how they wanted to age. I watched individuals lose independence they might have preserved, families struggle through crisis without a plan, and too many people approach aging with fear rather than intention.

My work became deeply personal as I navigated my own health challenges, experienced corporate downsizing, and endured the heartbreaking loss of both of my parents in a dementia-related murder-suicide. These experiences reinforced what I had witnessed throughout my career: life can change in an instant, and waiting until crisis forces the conversation often robs us of choice.

When I turned fifty, I made a conscious decision to stop waiting for life to happen and start designing the life I wanted to create. I set an intention to find love, purpose, and meaning in my next chapter. That decision ultimately led me to meet my husband, Pablo, and reminded me that some of life's greatest opportunities often emerge during seasons of uncertainty, loss, and reinvention.

The same intention that transformed my own life became the inspiration for Bold, Not Old™. Grounded in gerontology, longevity research, wellness, and real-life experience, Bold, Not Old™ helps people move beyond fear-based narratives and intentionally design a future filled with vitality, resilience, purpose, connection, and possibility.

I hold a Master's degree in Gerontology and a Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion from Miami University. I am a Certified Senior Advisor® (CSA), and an Aging Life Care Professional®.

My message is simple: Aging is inevitable. How we age is not.

Whether you're navigating a personal transition, supporting a loved one, planning for your future, or seeking an engaging speaker for your organization, I would be honored to help you approach aging with greater confidence and clarity.
